Itinerary
The Journey to Vinicunca and the Red Valley
Prepare for a challenging yet rewarding day among the highest peru rainbow mountains.
- 04:00 AM – 05:00 AM: Pick-up from Cusco: We begin our journey in the early morning, picking you up from your accommodation near the historic center. We then travel south through the rugged beauty of the Andes for approximately 90 minutes.
- 06:30 AM: Breakfast in Cusipata & Checacupe: Enjoy a delicious breakfast in the district of Cusipata. Afterward, we visit the Colonial Bridge of Checacupe, a unique site where you can see three eras of history side-by-side: Inca, Colonial, and Republican bridges.
- 09:00 AM: Arrival at Kayrahuire Alto: We reach our trailhead at 4,450 masl (14,580 feet). Here, you will prepare for a short hike of 35 to 50 minutes to reach the summit. For those seeking a more relaxed journey, locals offer horses or motorcycles for rent.
- 10:00 AM: The Viewpoint of Vinicunca: Reach the top of the Rainbow Mountain elevation (5,020 masl). Enjoy free time to take incredible photos, videos, or simply soak in the view. You can also support the local community by tasting coca tea or coffee offered at the summit.
- Optional: The Red Valley: If you are in good physical condition and by prior arrangement, we can explore the Red Valley. This optional trek reveals a Martian-like landscape with intense reddish pigmentation due to rich mineral deposits.
- 12:30 PM: Descent and Lunch: We descend the same path back to our transport, heading to Cusipata for a well-deserved and delicious lunch to replenish your energy.
- 05:00 PM – 05:30 PM: Arrival in Cusco: We conclude our journey by dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city.

This trek is a high-altitude challenge. To fully enjoy the rainbow mountains peru, we strictly recommend:
- Consulting with your doctor regarding high-altitude physical activity.
- Being reasonably fit and healthy.
- Spending at least 3 days in Cusco to acclimatize before the trek.
