Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Tambomachay – High Passes – Pucamarca

High Andean landscapes, lagoons, and camping under the stars.

06:00 AM – The Adventure Begins: We pick you up from your hotel to head to the archaeological site of Tambomachay. Here, we begin our ascent through the stunning Puna landscapes.

Conquering the Passes: We hike over the Sicllaccasa Pass (4,020 masl / 13,186 ft), where we will find archaeological remains and wild crops like tarwi and cacti. We continue to the Queullococha Pass (4,185 masl), a natural viewpoint offering magnificent views of the snow-capped peaks.

Lagoons and Wildlife: Passing Lake Queullococha, keep an eye out for local wildlife like huallatas (Andean geese), ducks, and small fish. We ascend to the Challu Challu Pass (4,220 masl) to observe the plains of Chinchero and the Piuray and Qoricocha lagoons.

Inca Quarry & Camp: After crossing the fourth pass at Rumicruz (4,230 masl), we visit the ancient Inca rock quarry, the source of the stones used to build Huchuy Qosqo. Finally, we descend to the community of Pucamarca (4,010 masl). Here, we will enjoy a hot dinner and camp overnight in the silence of the Andes.

Day 02: Huchuy Qosqo – Taucca – Cusco

The Leon Punku Canyon and the Balcony of the Sacred Valley.

Through the Canyon: After a nutritious breakfast, we continue our Huchuy Qosqo trek downhill towards the impressive Leon Punku Canyon. We navigate through geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks, following the remains of an Inca bridge and trail.

Arrival at Huchuy Qosqo: We reach Huchuy Qosqo (3,600 masl / 11,808 ft), an imposing archaeological complex with a large ceremonial center. From here, you will have the best panoramic view of the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota River. Your guide will provide a detailed tour of this historical gem.

Descent to Taucca: After the tour, we hike for about two hours to the next point (4,200 masl) and then descend for another two hours until we reach the village of Taucca.

Lunch & Return: We enjoy a well-deserved lunch in Taucca. Finally, our private bus will be waiting to bring us back to Cusco, dropping you off at your hotel.
