DAY 01: CUSCO – BAMBOO LODGE

• [Early Morning] – [Andean Departure]: We begin our 6 day Manu jungle expedition departing from Cusco. Enjoy an approx. 8-hour scenic drive in a private minibus, climbing to the dramatic high mountains at 3,900 masl (13,000 ft).
• [Mid-Morning] – [Cultural Stops]: Take a fascinating journey back in time with a brief stop at the pre-Inca cemetery of Ninamarca and the charming colonial town of Paucartambo.
• [Afternoon] – [Cloud Forest Descent]: Descend the eastern slopes of the Andes into the lush cloud forest. Marvel at vibrant orchids and ferns while searching for our national bird, the bright red Andean cock-of-the-rock, and your first glimpse of woolly monkeys.
• [Evening] – [Arrival at Bamboo Lodge]: Settle into your cozy double room with a private bathroom at the Bamboo Lodge (700 masl). Enjoy a hearty dinner and an expert briefing from your guide about tomorrow’s thrilling activities.

DAY 02: BAMBOO LODGE – DORADO ECOLOGICAL LODGE

• [Very Early] – [Journey to Atalaya]: After breakfast, we continue by minibus to the port of Atalaya (600 masl). Along the way, visit a local animal rescue station and enjoy a short walk to spot rare orchids and native birds.
• [Morning to Afternoon] – [Amazon River Navigation]: Embark on an approx. 8-hour voyage in a 15-meter motorized canoe along the Alto Madre de Dios River. Watch the landscape shift into the lowland rainforest while scanning the rocky banks for alligators, Fasciated Tiger Herons, and playful monkeys.
• [Late Afternoon] – [Local Culture & Dorado Lodge]: Visit a local riverside town to appreciate their traditional way of life. Shortly after, arrive at the Dorado Lodge, your comfortable shelter in the jungle featuring double rooms and private bathrooms.
• [Night] – [Tapir Clay Lick Safari]: Step into the darkness for a thrilling night walk. Search for unique insects, frogs, and snakes before reaching the lodge’s main attraction: a mesmerizing tapir clay lick hidden in the forest.

DAY 03: DORADO ECOLODGE – CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE

• [Morning] – [Entering the Reserved Zone]: Continue down the Alto Madre de Dios River to the Limonal ranger station to present our permits. This marks the true beginning of our Manu Reserved Zone tour 6 days deep immersion.
• [Midday] – [Wildlife River Cruise]: Navigate the waters while keeping your camera ready. This pristine stretch is famous for sightings of capybaras, peccaries, massive Black and White Caimans, and occasionally, the majestic Jaguar resting on the shores.
• [Late Afternoon] – [Arrival at Casa Matsiguenka]: Arrive at the intimate Casa Matsiguenka Lodge. Exclusively managed by the indigenous Matsiguenka caretakers, this rustic yet cozy lodge offers an authentic, respectful connection to the Manu wilderness.
• [Night] – [Optional Night Exploration]: Choose to rest to the soothing sounds of the jungle, or join an optional night walk to discover the mysterious nocturnal creatures that awaken after dusk.

DAY 04: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – SALVADOR LAKE – OTORONGO LAKE

• [Morning] – [Deep Forest Trekking]: Spend the day exploring the vibrant jungle trails. Walk among giant ancient trees while your guide points out medicinal plants, colorful toucans, eagles, and troops of agile monkeys (like coatis and tapirs).
• [Midday] – [Picnic in the Wild]: Enjoy a delicious lunch surrounded by the pristine beauty of the rainforest, fueling up for an afternoon of aquatic exploration.
• [Afternoon] – [Catamaran Lake Safari]: Navigate the mirror-like waters of Salvador Lake and Otorongo Lake on a traditional catamaran. This is your prime opportunity to observe massive caimans and the highly endangered, playful Giant River Otters.
• [Evening] – [Jungle Sunset]: Return to the peaceful Casa Matsiguenka Lodge to share stories of the day’s wildlife encounters and spend another immersive night under the Amazonian canopy.

DAY 5: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – MANU BIRDING LODGE

• [Morning] – [River Confluence]: We bid farewell to the Reserved Zone and travel back down the Manu River. Witness the spectacular natural phenomenon where the quiet, tea-brown waters meet the clear, fast-flowing currents of the Alto Madre de Dios River.
• [Afternoon] – [Arrival at Birding Paradise]: Continue down the Madre de Dios River until we reach the renowned Manu Birding Lodge, strategically located just upriver from the famous macaw clay lick.
• [Late Afternoon] – [Trail Exploration]: With an astonishing bird list of over 657 species, this area is a paradise for birdwatchers. Spend your afternoon exploring their extensive trail system, specially designed to showcase different tropical forest types and their unique inhabitants.

DAY 6: MANU BIRDING LODGE – BLANQUILO MACAW CLAY LICK – CUSCO OR PUERTO MALDONADO

• [Early Morning] – [The Macaw Spectacle]: We start very early with a 40-minute downriver trip to the biggest clay lick in the area. Settle into our hidden blind to witness the breathtaking Manu Macaw Clay Lick 6 days highlight: up to 100 Red-and-green Macaws and hundreds of parakeets flocking to the clay.
• [Morning] – [Breakfast with the Birds]: Enjoy a unique breakfast right at the blind. The incredible noise and brilliant flashes of Orange-cheeked and Blue-headed Parrots make this a truly unforgettable sensory experience.
• [Midday] – [Final River Journey]: Board our boat for the final stretch down the Madre de Dios River, absorbing your last glimpses of riverside wildlife before reaching Boca Colorado.
• [Afternoon to Evening] – [Return Journey]: Leave the boat and take a local car to Puerto Carlos, cross the Inambari River by local boat, and begin the drive to your final destination.
• [Evening/Night] – [Arrival & Drop-off]: We will drop you off safely at your hotel (or the airport in Puerto Maldonado). Arrivals in Puerto Maldonado are between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, while arrivals in Cusco are between 11:00 PM and 12:00 AM (Midnight).
