Pacaya Samiria National Reserve 4 Days and 3 Nights Camping

DAY 01: IQUITOS CITY – NAUTA PORT – PACAYA SAMIRIA RESERVE.

• [Very Early] – [Departure to Nauta]: We leave the city of Iquitos very early in a private car, enjoying a comfortable 1:30-hour drive to the port city of Nauta, where a delicious breakfast awaits us.
• [Morning] – [River Confluence Navigation]: Board our private boat and travel upstream. Witness the breathtaking, spectacular union of the Ucayali and Marañón rivers as they merge to form the legendary Amazon River.
• [Midday] – [Entering the Reserve]: Navigate upriver for approx. 2.5 hours (50 miles SW of Nauta) until we reach the majestic Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. We register at the community of Arequipa, establish our first camp, and enjoy a well-deserved lunch.
• [Afternoon] – [Avian & Dolphin Sighting]: Observe spectacular bird species like egrets, hawks, horned screamers, and parrots. Feel the thrill of spotting the iconic pink dolphins of the Amazon River swimming freely around our boat.
• [Sunset/Night] – [Alligator Safari]: As dusk settles, embark on a thrilling canoe trip to safely spot and interact with resting alligators, giving you a unique opportunity for incredible photographs before returning to our camp for dinner.

DAY 02: PACAYA SAMIRIA RESERVE – SHANSHO LAKE.

• [Early Morning] – [Jungle Awakening]: Start your day with a nourishing breakfast early in the morning, listening to the vibrant sounds of the awakening rainforest.
• [Morning] – [Voyage to the Mirrors]: Navigate the Marañón River for approx. 3 hours until we reach the breathtaking Lake Shansho Cocha area. Keep your eyes peeled for primates, reptiles, turtles, and pink river dolphins along the way.
• [Midday] – [Camp Setup & Lunch]: Arrive at our new destination where a hot lunch will be ready. Marvel at the river’s black waters perfectly reflecting the sky, clouds, and giant trees—this striking optical illusion is why Pacaya Samiria is famously called the “jungle of mirrors.”
• [Afternoon] – [Amazonian Fishing]: Grab your gear and head out for an exciting fishing session. Try your luck catching native piranhas, sea bass, and other local species in the rich, protected waters of the reserve.
• [Night] – [Nocturnal Nature Walk]: After a restorative dinner, step into the darkness for a guided night walk through nature. Safely seek out fascinating nocturnal species like lizards, snakes, spiders, and monkeys before resting securely in your tents.

DAY 03: PACAYA SAMIRIA RESERVE – YANAQUILLO CREEK.

• [Early Morning] – [River Birdwatching]: Following an early breakfast, we board our boat and begin navigating back down the river towards Iquitos. Watch the canopy come alive as vibrant macaws, parrots, and magnificent Harpy Eagles leave their nests to feed.
• [Mid-Morning] – [Yanaquillo Creek Wildlife]: Embark on a fascinating excursion to the Yanaquillo stream. We will silently navigate these waters to observe playful squirrel monkeys, saddle tamarins, and relaxed sloths resting in the branches.
• [Midday] – [Giants of the Amazon]: Marvel at the sheer scale of the Amazon as we stop to admire giant ancient trees like the Lupuna and Capirona. We will also spot striking birds, including colorful toucans and Amazonian kingfishers, before enjoying a hearty jungle lunch.
• [Afternoon/Evening] – [Sunset Exploration]: Continue our immersive 4 day Pacaya Samiria tour exploring the depths of the reserve. We will absorb the last rays of the sun over the water before returning to our camp as night falls.

DAY 04: YANAQUILLO CREEK – NAUTA PORT – IQUITOS CITY.

• [Morning] – [Final Jungle Excursion]: We start the day with breakfast before heading out for our final morning excursion in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, taking in the last breathtaking views of the flooded forest.
• [Midday] – [Camp Breakdown & Lunch]: We return to the camp to share a final, delicious lunch. Afterward, we pack our belongings and bid farewell to the wilderness, embarking on our boat trip back towards civilization.
• [Afternoon] – [Wildlife & IIAP Rescue Center]: Enjoy the scenic ride back, keeping watch for herons, turtles, and snakes on the riverbanks. Along the way, we will make an educational visit to the IIAP (Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon) to see rescued and rehabilitated manatees and freshwater dolphins.
• [Late Afternoon] – [Return to Iquitos]: Upon arriving at the port, our private transport will take you comfortably back to Iquitos, dropping you off safely at your hotel or the airport to conclude your incredible Iquitos Pacaya Samiria 4 day trip.
