Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco – Tinki – Upis

The journey begins towards the Apu Ausangate.

7:00 AM – Departure: We leave Cusco early by private bus, heading towards Ocongate. Along the way, we pass traditional villages like Urcos and Ccatca, while the majestic Cordillera Vilcanota rises in the distance.

Arrival at Tinki: We reach the village of Tinki, where we meet our horsemen and horses who will support us during the expedition.

The First Hike: From Tinki, we begin our trek towards Upis (4,400 masl). This area is rich in Andean flora and fauna. Upon arrival, we settle into our first camp at the foot of the north face of Ausangate.

Relaxation: We have the opportunity to enjoy the natural hot springs at Upis to relax our muscles before a delicious dinner.

BEAR IN MIND – DAY 1

  • Destination: Upis Camp (4,400 masl / 14,435 ft).
  • Highlight: View of Ausangate North Face & Hot Springs.
  • Meals: Lunch and Dinner.

Day 02: Upis – Arapa Pass – Lake Ausangate

Crossing passes and discovering turquoise lagoons.

Morning Ascent: We wake up early for breakfast and tackle our first major challenge: the Arapa Pass (4,850 masl). The views from the top are breathtaking.

The Lagoons: We descend for three hours through the valley, passing the beautiful Pucaqocha lagoon until we reach Jatun Pucaqocha.

Laguna Pass: We climb again to reach the Laguna Pass (4,850 masl). From here, you will overlook the stunning Ausangate Qocha lagoon with its deep blue waters fed directly by the melting snow of the glacier. We set up camp here.

BEAR IN MIND – DAY 2

  • Highest Point: Arapa Pass & Laguna Pass (4,850 masl / 15,912 ft).
  • Camp Location: Ausangate Qocha.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 03: Lake Ausangate – Palomani Pass – Vinicunca

Conquering the highest pass to reach the Rainbow Mountain.

The Highest Challenge: We have breakfast with the sunrise. Today we climb a steep slope to reach the Palomani Pass (5,100 masl / 16,732 ft), the highest point of the trek so far. The panoramic view of Ausangate from here is unmatched.

Route to the Rainbow: We descend along an awesome route until we reach Vinicunca. Here, we witness the magnificent “Red Hill,” famous for its colorful mineral stripes.

Camping near the Colors: We set up our third camp near Vinicunca, allowing us to enjoy this natural wonder without the crowds.

BEAR IN MIND – DAY 3

  • Highest Point: Palomani Pass (5,100 masl / 16,732 ft).
  • Highlight: Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain).
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 04: Vinicunca – Apacheta Pass – Ticllaqocha

Walking through the Red Valley.

The Colorado Trails: Today we trek accompanied by the surreal landscapes of the Colorado trails (Red Valley). We ascend to reach Paso Apacheta.

Descent to Huchuy Jampa: From the pass, we descend towards Huchuy Jampa. The scenery is dramatic and untouched.

Camp at Ticllaqocha: We follow a gentle path until we arrive at our campsite at Ticllaqocha. Rest and recover amidst the silence of the Andes.

BEAR IN MIND – DAY 4

  • Destination: Ticllaqocha Camp.
  • Highlight: Red trails and Paso Apacheta.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 05: Ticllaqocha – Jampa Pass – Pacchanta

The final summit and a thermal reward.

Sunrise in the Andes: We get up early to receive the energy of the mountains. We begin our climb to the Jampa Pass (5,100 masl / 16,732 ft), another formidable altitude milestone.

Descent to the Lakes: We descend observing a chain of beautiful lakes. The trail becomes lighter as we appreciate the changing landscapes.

Arrival at Pacchanta: We reach the village of Pacchanta (4,200 masl). This is our final campsite. Here, you have the well-deserved opportunity to soak in the famous hot springs of Pacchanta and relax your tired muscles.

  • Highest Point: Jampa Pass (5,100 masl / 16,732 ft).
  • Highlight: Pacchanta Hot Springs.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.

Day 06: Pacchanta – Tinki – Cusco

Farewell to the Apus.

The Final Walk: Today is the last day of our trek through the Peruvian Andes. We get up early for breakfast and reflect on the vivid memories we have created.

Return to Civilization: We walk down to the village of Tinki (3,950 m). Here, our transport will be waiting to take us back to the imperial city of Cusco.

  • Activity: Hike to Tinki & Bus to Cusco.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

  • Mineral water (you can buy bottle of mineral water in some campsites)
  • First Breakfast and last lunch and dinner
  • Extra Horse or mule to carry extra backpacks or to ride, each horse cost (150 dollars per Horse or mule)
