6 days and 5 nights trek to Choquequirao with a plus Machu Picchu, Amazing places with conexion a through inca roads and beautiful landscapes, both lost cities and last refuges of the incas. Choquequiraw is located on the spur of the Salkantay mountain range, at more than 3030 masl surrounded by the Apus de Padrayoc, Yamana, Ampay, Chokecarpu, Pumasiyo and Panta, on the left bank of the Apurimac River. In the Inca era, it was united and in communication with Machu Picchu by a complex network of trails, with fantastic nature, valleys, snowy mountains and a great variety of plants, birds and animals. The hike to Choquequirao starts from the town of Cachora, which is 4 to 5 hours west of the city of Cusco. The path to Choquequirao is allowed for anyone and can be completed without support; however, most hikers join organized tours that include a guide, camping equipment, mules and chargers to carry all the equipment and a cook to prepare the meal. We will start our trek to Choquequirao with your pick up at your hotel at 5:00 am. To get to the Sacred Valley, specifically to cachora in our private bus (4 hours approximately). Place where our trek begins, our team will enlist all the camping and cooking equipment on the mules and horses.
While we get ready for our first stretch of about 2 hours of walking to Capuliyoc, where we will be able to see all the mountains that surround us. We will continue for 2 more hours to descend to Chiquisca, where our delicious lunch prepared by our chef awaits us. After lunch and a short rest, we will continue up the mountain until we reach Playa Rosalina, where we will spend the night in our tents that will already be set up by our team.
This day we will wake up early, have breakfast and continue our hike to Santa Rosa, cross the Apurimac River and then climb a steep hill for about 2 hours. At Santa Rosa, we will take a short moment to catch our breath and continue to climb slowly for about 2 hours until we reach Marampata, where our lunch awaits us. We will take the afternoon to enjoy the landscape around us, after dinner we will have a briefing for the next day
This day we will wake up and have breakfast and then we will continue our journey, we will head to Chiquisca going down the same road as Santa Rosa to the beaches of the Apurimac River (Playa Rosalina) at 1550 masl / 5085 feet. Today we reach Chiquisca for lunch and after lunch we continue walking until we reach Cocamasana where we will spend the night
This day starts early with our breakfast and then we continue our journey for about an hour and a half to Marampata and then we will go down to the beach of Rosalina for lunch, after lunch we will take time to rest and recover energy. We will continue the climb to Chiquisca for another 2 hours, upon arrival our dinner will be served. In Chiquisca you can swim and enjoy exotic fruits.
This day we start our trip to Machu Picchu, we will leave our camp after breakfast, to make our last stretch of trek to Cachora, where we will have lunch. Then, our private transport will be waiting for us to take us to Ollantaytambo,then we will take the train to the city of Aguas Calientes. In the city of Aguas Calientes, our guide will give you recommendations and additional information for tomorrow and leave you at your hotel.
We will get up early in the morning around 4:00 to 4:30 to have breakfast and start walking towards Machu Picchu. It takes about an hour and a half to get to Machu Picchu, but there is another option to take the first bus that leaves at 5:00 : 30 to Machu Picchu (25 minutes by bus) (this is not included in the price, it costs $12 for the up bus and $12 for the down bus, so in both cases you will arrive at 6:00 am at Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu opens at 6:00 am, so you will enter and have the opportunity to experience the sunrise at Machu Picchu.
Your guide will give you a guided tour (about 2 hours and 30 minutes), after which you can explore the mysterious city of Machu Picchu on your own. If you still have energy, you can also climb Huayna Picchu (2720 masl / 8890 ft). It takes 45 minutes to reach the top. In addition, if there are no places available for Huaynapicchu, you can also climb Machu Picchu mountain, which takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the top (you must inform us in advance if you want to climb either of these mountains).
After experiencing the grandeur of Machu Picchu, you should return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (optional), then go to the train station to return to Ollantaytambo and then to Cusco. Regarding the train, we will provide you with the tourist class train, the departure times of the train can be between 14:55 and 21:50. This depends on the availability of seats. Once at the station of Ollantaytambo, our driver will be waiting for you with your names on a sheet of paper, this person will take you back to Cusco.
Note : If your budget is tight, don't worry, you can do this trek at a more comfortable price for your pocket, but in this case you will return to Cusco from Hidroeléctrica by bus instead of train.
