Manu Reserved Zone 6 Days 5 Nights

Manu National Park covers an area of 1,716, 295.22 hectares (17,162.95 km2) which comprises mountainous onsi (traversed by creeks and valleys) with elevations close to 4000 m above sea level and a portion of the Amazon Basin plains. The park is divided into the following onsi: the restricted use zone with pristine forests and native communities, onsid is granted to reasearchers only; the onsider zone for tourism; the recuperation zone for the recovery of disturbed onsi and the cultural zone for human settlement. About 160 species of mammals have been reported in the park, More than 1000 bird species have been estimated to exist in the park, The 155 amphibian species found in the park include, There are 132 species of reptiles in the park In addition, 210 species of fish, 300 species of ants, 650 species of beetles, 136 species of dragonflies and more than 1300 species of butterfiles have been reported in the park so far come with us and we guarantee you a 100 % satisfaction.

DAY 01: CUSCO – BAMBOO LODGE

Our trip starts early in Cusco, the trip will last 8 hours approx. by private minibus to the high mountain area at 3900 masl = 13,000 feet. We will make a brief stop in Ninamarca, to see the pre-Inca cemetery and the colonial town of Paucartambo, then we will descend through the eastern slopes of the Andes through a cloud forest with lush vegetation (ferns, orchids, bromeliads, etc.) During the trip we will enjoy spectacular views of the Andes and we can see the wildlife of our national bird: the rooster of the bright red rocks (Rupicola peruviana). We can also see tangaras, quetzales, trogons and hummingbirds of bright colors and the first monkeys, like woolly monkeys. In the afternoon we arrive at Bamboo Lodge (700 masl = 2296.59 feet), in this place we will spend the night (double rooms and private bathroom). After dinner the guide will inform you about the activities of the next day.

DAY 02: BAMBOO LODGE – DORADO ECOLOGICAL LODGE

Very early we will have our breakfast and then we will continue in our minibus to the port of Atalaya (600 masl = 1968.50 feet). On the way we will stop at an animal rescue station and look for orchids and we will also walk along the road to look for monkeys and birds. Then from Atalaya we will sail for 8 hours approx. in a 15-meter motorized canoe along the Alto Madre de Dios River until you reach the lowland rainforest. On this day we enjoy the changing landscape and we have the opportunity to see wildlife along the rocky banks of the river, such as Fasciated Tiger Herons, Kingfisher, Vultures, alligators and some of the 13 species of monkeys that live in Manu. Then we will visit a local town where you can appreciate typical houses and the way of living of this people. In the afternoon we arrive at the Dorado Lodge (Place of the black spider monkey; double rooms with private bathroom). At night we will have a night walk to see insects, frogs, snakes, etc. and the main attraction in this lodge, which is a tapir clay lick.

DAY 03: DORADO ECOLODGE – CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE

After breakfast we continue our journey river down (Alto madre de Dios) to our first stop in the Control (Puesto de vigilancia Limonal) and them we continue our trip by boat to Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, but in the way we will aprecite many different kind of animals such as Capybara, peccaries monkeys brilliant birds and the adult Black, white Caiman, or even a pair of Jaguar. Late afternoon we arrive at Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, which includes the same amenities while still rustic, cozy and intimate in its surroundings of the Jungle of Manu. Exclusively managed by indigenous Matsiguenka, original caretakers of the Manu wilderness. (Optional Night Walk).

DAY 04: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – SALVADOR LAKE – OTORONGO LAKE

This day we will explore the jungle most of the day, on the way we will appreciate many different kinds of animals; such as tapir, collared peccaries, monkeys, coati, birds such as eagles, parrots, toucans, medicinal plants, flowers, and the giant trees of the jungle. We will have our lunch in the jungle, and follow that we go to visit to beautifull lake; Salvador Lake And Otorongo Lake where we will be travelling in Catamaran and enjoy watching the wild population of the amazing lake such as White and Black Caimans, and the famous Giant river Otter and hundred of birds. We will return to Casa Matsiguenka Lodge and spend the night here.

DAY 5: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – MANU BIRDING LODGE

After leaving the Manu Reserved Zone, we will travel back down the Manu River to its junction with the Alto Madre de Dios River. Here the water changes from quiet and tea brown to clear and fast-flowing. After travelling down the Madre de Dios River we will come to Manu Birding Lodge, with a bird list over 657 species, situated just upriver from the Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick. The rest of our time will be spent exploring the extensive trail systems which have been designed to visit different forest types.

DAY 6: MANU BIRDING LODGE – BLANQUILO MACAW CLAY LICK - CUSCO OR PUERTO MALDONADO

We start early morning, 40 minutes downriver to the most spectacular and the biggest Macaw Clay lick in this area, this one featuring up to 100 Red-and-green Macaws and observe the spectacle of hundreds of Parrots and Parakeets very close from our blinds. Red-and-green Macaw is a highlight. Here we will see the beautiful Orange-cheeked Parrot, Blue-headed Parrot as well as Mealy and Yellow-crowned Parrots. Smaller visitors include White-eyed, Cobalt-winged and Tui Parakeets. We’ll use a blind (hide) to get close to the birds. Breakfast at the blind. The noise alone is incredible and the sight of these brightly colored birds at the lick is a sight not to be forgotten. After this great adventure, we will take our boat where the last part of our journey down the Madre de Dios River will give us another opportunity to see riverside wildlife activity. Leaving our boat, we will take a local car from Boca Colorado to Puerto Carlos and we will cross the Inanvari River with a local boat then we’ll drive to Puerto Maldonado or to Cusco, in Puerto Maldonado you will arrive between 7:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. In Cusco you will arrive between 11:00 pm. to 12:00 am. (Midnight) In both cases we drop you off at your hotel or at the airport in Puerto Maldonado if you wish.
